Cutting power bills

Gold Coast residents pay far too much for power while energy giants rake in billions.

Our community faces the double burden of high costs and vulnerability to blackouts during storms and extreme weather – such as during Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred – problems that will only worsen as climate impacts increase.

I regularly meet with people who are choosing between cooling their homes and buying groceries and small businesses where sky-rocketing energy costs threaten their viability.

Meanwhile, Australia exports vast amounts of gas while charging citizens premium prices for our own resources.

I will push for:

  • Expanded subsidies to help more households access solar and battery systems – which can slash energy bills while also providing security during outages.
  • Strong ACCC powers to prevent price gouging by retailers.
  • Community energy projects that improve local resilience during outages.
