We are getting ripped off by the big supermarkets.
Coles and Woolworth control nearly 70% of the market and made more than $1 billion in after-tax profits last financial year, squeezing farmers and pushing out our local small grocers. They are making record profits while everyday Australians struggle to afford their weekly groceries.
The major parties accept hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from Coles and Woolworths so they won't stand up to them.
As your independent for McPherson, I’ll stand up to powerful interests and fight for a food system that treats our farmers and families fairly. I will:
- Push for stronger ACCC oversight with real penalties for price gouging and misleading practices.
- Support the implementation of a mandatory Grocery Code of Conduct, to protect local farmers, suppliers and small businesses.
- Support investment in local food solutions, including farmers markets, food cooperatives and farm-to-table networks that help Gold Coasters buy fresh, affordable and local.
