A rise in well-off, left-leaning voters could turn the Gold Coast into the next teal battleground, as Simon Holmes a Court’s progressive political movement backs marathon runner Erchana Murray-Bartlett to enter parliament.

The Australian Financial Review interviewed (behind paywall) Erchana Murray-Bartlett, the community independent candidate for the Federal seat of Mcpherson on the Southern Gold Coast.

"Held by the Liberals since 1972, the seat on the target list of the teal independent movement, along with dozens of others around the country".

"I'm definitely inspired by the independent movement", Ms Murray-Bartlett, 34, told The Australian Financial Review. "There's a big appetite here for progression in the climate space and make sure we're doing more. We've had the same party represent us for over 40 years, so you need to just be in the fight to see change and that's what I'm excited about."
